WHO SUFFERS FROM SENSITIVE SCALP?

Hair is often called to be one’s crowning glory. A healthy, luscious set of locks has a huge effect on your appearance and is often a source of great confidence. For your hair to look it’s best, it needs an equally healthy foundation, your scalp.

Sometimes, due to the excessive use of hair products, unforgiving weather, or underlying skin conditions, your scalp can get overly sensitive and result in further irritation.

EVERYTHING YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT SENSITIVE SCALP

The scalp is a living, sensitive organ that can have adverse reactions to the various aggressions it is exposed to.

A sensitive scalp can cause great irritation and discomfort for many people which can be very distracting during your daily routine. The symptoms can include tightness, burning, tingling, pain, itching, and redness.

Studies have shown that , around 60% of women and 40% of men have issues with sensitive scalps. The causes of sensitivity can vary greatly, but often include factors such as dryness, inflammation, and skin conditions like such as eczema and psoriasis, or, in some cases, the cause may also be genetic.

If the scalp is showing signs of severe irritation, it may be hyperreactive or hypersensitive.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DRY SCALP AND DANRUFF?

Having a dry scalp means your scalp is irritated and will flake off. Dandruff is caused by a yeastlike fungus called Malassezia. This fungus is already found on your head but when it multiplies excessively, it causes a build up of oil and dead skin, which is what we know as dandruff.

Scalp exfoliation can be as simple as a hand massage that stimulates the scalp and cause more blood circulation. It can also mean an exfoliation through chemical treatments, though shouldn’t be done more than once or twice a week as frequent exfoliation can cause irritation.

An itchy scalp is only a symptom of a bigger issue and doesn’t directly mean hair loss, an itchy scalp can be a sign of irritation, or some other skin condition. However, frequently scratching your scalp can lead to scalp and follicle damage in the long term, especially if in isolated areas.

Dry scalp is when you lose too much moisture and begin to flake off. It has many underlying reasons which can include side effects of hair products, weather, age, and several skin conditions.
