Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) scatters multiple wavelengths onto the treatment area, targeting the pigment that is present in each hair. Using a flash lamp device, the hair cells in the treatment area are killed, preventing new hairs from growing.
While IPL isn’t exactly a painless hair removal method, most clients experience very little sensation during the treatment. However, you may feel a slight tingle during the treatment, similar to that of the flick of a rubber band on your skin, but the sensation is very bearable and is comparably less severe than waxing!
Although it is suitable for all skin types, IPL hair removal is not recommended for clients with a darker skin tone.
Darker skin tones absorb more energy than a lighter skin tones do, due to the larger concentration of the pigment melanin in darker skin tones. This leads to more discomfort experienced during the treatment.
Unlike shaving or waxing, IPL treatment does not cause any ingrown hairs.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) scatters multiple wavelengths within the skin, targeting the pigment in each hair shaft that’s present in the treatment area. Laser hair removal emits a single wavelength onto the hair follicles in the target area, thereby damaging them.
The number of IPL treatments you go for depends on which growth phase your underarm hair is in. You will most likely have to go through multiple treatments in order to target all your hair, as they go through the stage of growth that is most effectively removed by IPL.
Hairs have three stages of growth and they are Anagen, Catagen and Telogen.
Hairs in the first stage of growth, the Anagen phase, reacts most effectively with IPL hair removal, due to the hairs containing the most amount of pigment at this stage.
IPL hair removal treatment has no downtime. You may experience some slight swelling or redness post treatment, but this is normal and will subside in a couple of hours.
